New Guide for Asbestos Surveys
The HSE is strongly recommending all businesses to get asbestos surveys done only by professional surveyors. It is important that organizations that are relied upon to assess the risks of asbestos should conduct these surveys meticulously enough.
The HSE is taking this message out on the streets by conducting extensive road shows. It is making people and businesses aware of the new asbestos guide, which came out this year.
The guide, titled ‘Asbestos: The Survey Guide’ came out in January and is for businesses which conduct such surveys, the surveyors themselves, and contractors and architects who rely on such surveys.
The guide maintains that businesses must hire only those surveyors or surveying organizations that have the right credentials and certificates. Certifications like UKAS accreditation or ABICS are preferred.
Author of the guide, Dr. Martin Gibson, stressed the importance of appropriate asbestos surveys. He said that businesses should give priority to hiring certified surveyors as surveyors or surveying bodies that are not accredited may not be competent enough. Accredited bodies or individuals should be used to avoid legal hassles. Dr. Gibson is also the Principal Specialist Inspector of the HSE.
A new course relating to asbestos surveys and law will be held on 21st July this year at the Workplace Law Executive Centre in
The course will enlighten people about the new asbestos guide and give them comprehensive training and knowledge about it. Only 10 seats are available so businesses and organisations that are interested should book their seats without delay.
All organizations in the UK will be expected to adhere to these new guidelines. The new course highlights the important changes that have been made and should be required learning for all asbestos surveyors, or those who get such surveys implemented.
For anyone involved in major building, maintenance or refurbishment work compliance with Construction (Design and Management) Regulations is compulsory. CDM courses provide the necessary training to ensure organisations are aware of their health and safety obligations and remain compliant with CDM Regulations.
